The museum was set up without any subsidy by the Dutch realistic painter Rob Møhlmann. Together with his wife, Laura, he strives to provide contemporary realistic and figurative art with a recognizable platform. In short, a platform for representational art.

The Museum Møhlmann is located in "The Muzeheerd", a listed building at the outskirts of the historic town of Appingedam, at roughly a 15-minute drive of the city of Groningen. The building is a is 47 meter long traditional farm (the so-called "head-neck-trunk" type), with an attached secondary barn, and was built in stages between 1840 and 1870. The building is partly moated and lies on a plot of slightly over an acre, with a drive and a garden in which 14 trees have also been listed as monuments. In these "heavenly" surroundings the museum itself is located in the fully restored big barn and secondary barn.

The Museum houses three permanent collections, viz. The Canto-Collection, the Møhlmann-Collection I (present-day realistic and figurative works) and the Møhlmann-Collection II (work of the painter himself). Besides that, three yearly exhibitions are held, one of which is the yearly exhibition of the "Independent Realists". All in all there are constantly about 400 works of art to enjoy.

Note to our English-speaking visitors

The English version of our website is practically the same as the Dutch one. The only difference is to be found in the item "News" (in Dutch "Nieuws"). This does not exists in the English version. This is due to the fact that most of this news is often local or trivial. Of course you are very welcome to visit Nieuws, and even if your Dutch is not sufficient, there are always the pictures accompanying the text that you might feast your eyes on.
